Cheesy Bacon Scones for Salty Breakfast Lovers

I love a good pancake or doughnut in the morning, but sometimes I wake up wanting nothing to do with sugar. Actually, most mornings that's how I wake up. I am a fan of the traditional savory breakfast--sausage or bacon, toast, and lightly seasoned scrambled eggs. I've been toying with the idea of making a savory scone for a while. When I was brain storming, it became clear to me that I wanted a scone that I could dip in sausage gravy (because DUH, I'm a southern cook). And voila--my cheesy bacon scones for salty breakfast lovers were born.A breakfast for people who prefer salt over sugar - cheesy bacon scones! Scones are very biscuit like, which made the part about adding the gravy seem like a no-brainer. However, I didn't want to add really big chunks of meat to the scones. I wanted the batter to be a little more uniform, so I decided to fry up some bacon and add that instead of sausage. [yumprint-recipe id='10']A simple white gravy is super easy to make. Take the drippings from the bacon, and add 2.5 tablespoons of flour. Stir quickly until dissolved. Add 1.5 cups milk and stir-stir-stir until it's thickened. Remove from heat and serve!A breakfast for people who prefer salt over sugar - cheesy bacon scones! This recipe is perfect for a freezer meal, too. We had guests this past weekend, and I knew I'd be too tired to wake up and actually cook the morning they were leaving, so I premade the dough. I whipped it all up, rolled it, and cut it. Then, instead of cooking it, I just flash froze it. Then I covered the pan in plastic wrap and kept it in the freezer until I was ready to make them. In the morning, I took the plastic wrap off, and popped them in a 400 degree oven for 17 minutes. I added a couple of extra minutes because they were frozen. It was a hit! Everyone loved them and they made the perfect quick and delectable breakfast, sans all the sugar! Are you a salty > sugar person? What's your favorite splurge breakfast?
