This pin brings in an outrageous amount of traffic, and I really think it's all because people are looking to build quality wardrobes that really fit their lives and work for them. I'm pretty proud of my fall capsule wardrobe, so I thought I'd bring you more ways to build a killer capsule wardrobe.

I'm coming up on a full year of capsule wardrobe-ing (totally a word), and I have definitely learned a few things along the way. The first thing is this: I will never be one of those people who looks like they stepped out of a magazine. That's simply not me. Step 1 | Stay True to Your Personal Style

Over the past year, I've discovered that when I worked hard to make myself look stylish, I failed miserably. Want to know why that is? Because it wasn't me. I just cannot force myself to have a different style. It is what it is. The small details may change, but over-all, my style is my style. For a long time, I didn't think I even had a style, but over the past several months I've realized that I totally have a personal style. I prefer mostly basic pieces with one stand out piece in an outfit.For example, this is an outfit from my fall capsule wardrobe. You'll see there's not a lot that makes it unique: basic blouse, black circle skirt, camel scarf. You've seen it all a dozen times. but I jazz up the look by adding metallic flats and an awesome statement necklace. These small details make it my own. So if you're struggling with your personal style, don't fret. You have one, you just have to figure it out and find out how to harness it with each outfit. If you're a jeans and t-shirt girl, you may find simple ways to glam the look that really work for you! 

Step 2 | The Color Palette is Still King

Like I mentioned in part one, a color palette is so incredibly important. I blew this off for my first capsule and it turned around to bite me in the tuckus. I had pieces that I loved, but they didn't mesh well together. When I finally started setting a color palette, I was much happier and I could style the pieces much more easily. This fall, my color palette revolves largely around maroon... No Aggie jokes, y'all! Maroon/Burgundy is a hot color and has been for many years. This year, I'm beefing up the maroon/burgundy palette by adding jewel tones to the mix. I have been all over jewel tones for the past few months and I don't see that ending any time soon. Every outfit plays into this color scheme. You'll see in the following outfits taken from my capsule wardrobe that there seems to be a big trend. There's some pattern mixing, and some staple colors (like white and black), but the colors largely revolve around jewel tones... and there's a lot of burgundy. I know I said above that your personal style is what it is, but I absolutely adore pattern mixing, so I'm dipping my toe into it this season. You personal style may be what it is, but I think it's still important to push the boundaries. Don't you? I'm pushing the boundaries by pattern mixing a tad. However, the tones still work together, and that's what I think is key. Ask me in 2030 if I regret pairing this hot air balloon top with those awesome leopard rockstud flats from Amazon. 

Step 3 | Set Your Capsule & Stick To It

...most of the time. I've mentioned in past posts to "throw out the rules" for your capsule wardrobe, and I still stick by those suggestions, however... I think those are instances where you need to throw out some rules, but replace them with your own.So, if you'll remember from my summer capsule wardrobe post, I decided to only count tops and not bottoms. This was mainly due to the fact that I only have one capsule wardrobe to meet all of my clothing needs: work and leisure. It's hot in Texas which means I will not be wearing jeans in my leisure time. However, I have to wear longer pants to work, so... I threw out the rule that said I counted bottoms! So, it's great to change the rules. After all, you need this wardrobe to work for your individual life. However, you need to set your own rules and stick to them. What good is a capsule wardrobe if you're always reaching in the back of your closet to find something else to add to it? Set your capsule, and wear your capsule. You can set your own rules, but it's really only beneficial when you have a little structure. So don't be too lenient.This go-around I decided I'd count bottoms again because I can wear all of them for work and for leisure. My struggle this season is that the weather changes so much. It's still actually pretty hot here in Texas. We actually just had our first day that didn't hit 90. So, I'm not counting outer-wear. Scarves, jackets, that kind of stuff. It's all about layering! I have plenty of cardigans in this capsule wardrobe. They should get me through the weird in-between time before I need to break out the jackets at the end of November. [the_ad id="4340"]

4 | If It's Not Broken, Don't Fix It

Your wardrobe, that is.Don't worry if your wardrobe has similar pieces in it. Similarly, don't worry if this capsule wardrobe is close to your last capsule wardrobe. If it's working, there's nothing to fix. If you find a shirt that makes you feel like a million bucks, by all means buy it (and wear it) in every color... especially if it's a layering piece! Over all, I'm happy that I'm still enjoying the capsule wardrobe lifestyle. Obviously, I didn't show every piece in my capsule wardrobe in this post. That's mainly because it would ridiculously redundant. I have duplicates of many pieces (think lots of cardigans and basic blouses). I've discovered that these are the pieces I tend to put in every. single. capsule. wardrobe. And I'm really alright with that. they work for me, and I'm happy to include them.Similarly, there are those pieces that work in every capsule wardrobe... like chambray. I've included this top in every single capsule I've ever done because it truly works for every season. Don't be afraid to play those pieces up, because they're pure gold for your wallet and for your creative juices. Personally, I love the fact that I have an outfit in my repertoire that is always relevant and always works. Man do I love chambray...

5 | Play That One-Trick Pony

And then, there are those pieces that I generally only include in one or two capsule wardrobes throughout the year. Like flannel. Oh boy do I love flannel in the cooler weather, but get that schnizz off of me when the temps start to creep back up. These one-trick-ponies are fine to throw in the mix. These are the pieces that I think make a capsule wardrobe from season to season. If I didn't throw them in, I'd basically have the same capsule all year long and I'd likely get bored with it.I hope these capsule wardrobe hacks have helped you figure out your capsule wardrobe quandary.
