We were blessed with 1 lime green living room wall, a purple loft, and an orange guest bedroom. It took us a little over 2 weeks, but we painted the entire house, minus bathrooms, by ourselves. The bathrooms can wait, we thought. As the months went on, I began to really regret that decision. The bathroom off our primary living space was a palm tree nightmare! I made it my mission to de-palm the half bath before this baby comes.

Think I'm overreacting to the palm tree abomination? Here are a couple of before shots: Those palm tree tiles! Can you even deal? The previous owners were even nice enough to gift us a palm tree print and hand towel to complete the room! How nice. Priority number one was to rid ourselves of the palm trees. We threw out the palm tree towel, donated the palm tree art, and removed the palm tree decals from the tile. We'd still love to replace the tile altogether, but that's a project for a time when I'm not pregnant. ;) 

Half Bath Design

Once we had a de-palmed bathroom, our space felt like it was missing something (and that something was not more beach foliage). Since the space is so small, we decided to go BOLD with the color. We went back and forth on what color to choose, but in the end we landed on Georgian Bay (HGSW2362), a color from the Thoughtful Living Color Collection.With the color in mind, I went to work on a small design plan. One thing I loved about choosing a color from the Thoughtful Living Color Collection was the built in color scheme! The Color Collection helped inspire more than just paint color. I looked for similar hues in upholstery, artwork, and other pieces to create a perfectly coordinated look. I wanted something elegant, earthy, and a little edgy, too. I scoured the clearance sections of my favorite discount stores to find a couple of elements that I wanted to include. I didn't need much because the bathroom is such a small space. Notice the gold, feminine cream textures, and wood. I thought this design plan was a complete 180 from the days of palm trees' past. 

Half Bath Makeover

We went to Lowe's and gathered our supplies: 

• HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY Interior Paint and Primer
• A Purdy Roller

We raided our household paint supplies from when we painted the rest of our house and busted out our trusty Purdy paint brush, a drop cloth, and some painter's tape. I think I went into this makeover a little naive. I didn't realize working in such a tight space would make it so difficult. We removed the top half of the toilet and I squatted and stood on my head to paint all of the hard to reach places. It took all day, but we finally finished painting... just think if we would have had to PRIME the space, too? I have never been so thankful for paint + primer in my life.
