My “Why”
After losing my mom suddenly in 2017, I found birth work. My husband and I had just relocated and I was in a new state with no family, no friends, and no career. I felt utterly lost. In Texas, I left a fulfilling career teaching technical skills in veterinary medicine, so I knew whatever I did next needed to be meaningful… enter birth work!
My Training
I took my training through DONA International in the spring of 2017, and by summer I was taking clients. I love working with the talented women of New Life Birth Services! It became clear to me early in my doula career that my heart for teaching was still burning. I decided to certify as a childbirth educator in order to pursue that passion.
As I supported more families, and as I had my own birth experience, I developed a thirst for understanding more about how physiology shapes our births. I took a Spinning Babies® Workshop early in 2020 and it changed my outlook on labor progress.
I am certified to support the use of TENS in labor.
My “Who”
I am proud to support families no matter their structure or beliefs. I’ve supported a plethora of different family styles: from teen parents to established professionals. My ideal clients crave a deeper connection from their birth companion. It’s not rare for me to leave a birth with friends for life.
My Philosophy
I believe that support through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum sets new (and experienced) parents up for success. I’ve learned that prenatal education is a cornerstone of informed consent, and that the best decisions you’ll make in your birth are dependent on the (sometimes crazy) circumstances you’re given. I love supporting families through life’s greatest transition — birth!
Where I Work
I am pleased to work exclusively within the New Life Birth Services doula collective in Albuquerque, NM. I am a certified birth doula (CD(DONA)) and certified childbirth educator serving the Albuquerque area. I’m happy to support hospital, birth center, and home births. If you’re looking for an Albuquerque Doula, I’d love to meet you to see if we’re a good fit.
In addition to doula support, I offer virtual labor preparation in the form of one-on-one childbirth education through New Life Birth Services and beginning in the winter of 2025, will be offering Your Birth Illuminated - a 6 week childbirth course - at Dar a Luz Birth & Health Center.
About My Family
My husband, John, and I have been married for over 8 years. In 2016, we moved to New Mexico and in 2018, we became parents to Sully, followed by Maren in 2023. As a family, we love listening to good music and playing nightly games of hide-and-seek.
About My Hobbies
I am a voracious romance reader! Until the age of 30 I just thought I “wasn’t a reader”. Turns out, I was just reading the wrong genres for me!
I love sewing and create much of my own clothing. I also love quilting! Creating in the sewing room is a creative outlet for me and I love the freedom I feel about choosing every aspect of a piece.
