10 Human Foods To Feed Your Dog

When I open the crisper drawer of my refrigerator, Teddy is at my feet. An annoying habit? Sure. But she's wanting one thing that I'm happy to give her - carrots. She snatches them out of my hand in a jiffy. In fact, I've replaced all of her store bought snacks with carrots. Number 1, she loves them. Like, she would eat carrots over anything else - EVER. And number 2, they're cheap, I buy them anyway, and they're good for her. What you can feed your dog can be confusing. You hear all kinds of things from all kinds of people. Dogs are discouraged from eating human foods, for a lot of reasons. However, there are some human foods that you can share with your dog for a special meal or treat!  Carrots are good for dogs!

Please consult your veterinarian before changing your pet's diet in any way.

10 Human Foods You CAN Feed Your Dog

Dogs can eat some human food!

1 | Melons

Think watermelon, cantaloupe. honey dew. Melons are great snacks for dogs, but don't let your dog eat the seeds or rind, and always think about portion control!

2 | Berries

Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Cranberries. Berries are a good source of antioxidants for your dog just like they are for you!

3 | Apple

An apple (SLICE) a day keeps the veterinarian away. Be sure not to give your pet the seeds (they contain arsenic!) or the core. Half an apple slice is a great treat for a dog.

4 | Carrots

Baby carrots are low calorie, and the "crunch" is really good for your dog's teeth! Toss a couple of baby carrots his way for a healthy snack.Sometimes I wish I could eat carrots in peace, but Teddy will not leave me alone when I'm eating them.

5 | Green Beans

These are another low calorie snack, but plenty filling. Don't add salt, though. Green beans are especially good for dogs who are watching their weight... like my husband's dog, if she would eat them.

6 | Cooked Chicken

Forgot to pick up dog food? Cooked chicken will work in a pinch. Don't forget to take out ALL the bones! Dogs will eat all kinds of chicken. Do try to avoid all super strong seasonings and salt... but a little won't hurt. Try it boiled, baked, or grilled to treat your dog to a special dinner in.

7 | Peanut Butter

Yes. Peanut butter is a great treat for dogs. Smear some in a Kong toy and give your pet something to do. Use unsalted peanut butter, if you can. And remember that peanut butter is not a low calorie food, so don't feed too much.

8 | Cheese

Does your dog have a hard time choking down those monthly heartworm preventatives? A little cheese won't hurt, but do remember that cheese is pretty high in calories, so don't over-do it.

9 | Plain Yogurt

Yogurt is great for dogs with GI problems. It's also a high source of protein.

10 | Eggs

Scramble an egg for a special dog meal. They are high in protein and easy on your dog's system.
