Mexico, oh Mexico
This weekend, the hubz and I are off on a little getaway. We'll be visiting the Texas Hill Country and I am incredibly excited. We went on vacation last November, too, and I enjoyed it so much. I think we may make this "Vacation in November" a yearly thing, if we can.I thought it would be fun to do a little run-down of our vacation last year.Last year, we went on our first cruise. Now, at the risk of sounding like a snob, this wasn't the best vacation ever. It was affordable and it was relaxing--good enough for me after a really tough semester at work. Plus, Mexico is really good at cheap beer and margaritas. My happy place. The ship was nothing special. We did get a stateroom with a balcony and that was such a saving grace. I guess we should have done a little more research. We aren't "party" people. Both John and I are pretty reserved and we typically just like to sit back and take it all in. We prefer to find a quiet area, lay out, chit chat, and have a cold beer in hand. The balcony allowed us to do this on the cruise ship, privately. Win. The common areas of the ship appeared to be more of a "Spring Fall Break" for old, fat people. (Just being honest here). We do like to explore though, and this was something I looked forward to while we were in Mexico. I really wanted to see the Mayan ruins near Progreso... but you had to get on a sketchy tour bus and drive 2 hours one-way towards "inner" Mexico. We were a little afraid of missing the ship and a bit more afraid of the cartel, so we opted to stay on the ship most of the day instead. We did go into the town for lunch guacamole and beer, but we were hounded so much by the people there we quickly returned to the empty ship. "No gracias... I do not want your shady $10 massage."The next day in Cozumel, we booked a beach day at a resort. This was the most amazing time. The water there was clear turquoise blue. The drinks were plentiful. It was quiet AND we got to be kids and play on the abundant water toys. We kayaked, we jumped on water trampolines, we slid down ginormous slides into the ocean. It was such a fun day. This was the highlight of our trip.Overall, we got to get away for 5 days. We totally could have been happy with a 4 day. That last day we were just ready to be home. Lame? We made some memories and it was our first real trip together. Will we take another cruise? Probably not. We may consider it if a group of friends want to go, too. What about you? Have you ever been on a cruise? What were your thoughts on it? What type of vacation do you like to go on?
