Tour My City | College Station Texas
For a big portion of the last decade, I've had the privilege to live in College Station, Texas. It's a small city, but much bigger than the town I grew up in. One thing I've always loved about College Station is that although the residents are constantly revolving due to people coming to and leaving the university, it feels small. Maybe it's because I've been here so long, but I love walking into the store and seeing someone I know. Even though this is our temporary home, I feel like I've left some roots here.

I moved to college station in the summer of 2009. I was a doe-eyed 18 year old setting off for life "on my own" in college at Texas A&M University. I think it's hilarious to look back on who I was then. I sure thought I knew it all. Funny how time changes things. Campus is a lovely place. Main campus is one square mile, but it's grown beyond that square mile, and is still growing. One really cool thing about campus is that it's all lumped there right together. It's not spread throughout a city, it's all in one (very large) place. It's the largest physical campus in the nation by land area... so you'd think I would know by now not to wear these shoes to make the trek around campus. I feel lucky that I'm able to live here even after college. I was fortunate enough to get a job at the university, so I get to be immersed in the uniqueness every day. It's truly a special place. The university is build around tradition, and there's a certain moral code that Aggies (ok, most Aggies) live by. The entire university feels like a huge brotherhood. We look out for each other. We help each other. There's an old Aggie saying that goes, "from the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside looking out you can't explain it."Nothing could be more true. I know I'm a little bias, but y'all... I wish you could understand how I feel about this place for just a second. I've learned a lot of valuable life lessons here in Aggieland. The first major lesson I learned came my first week of class. I had been putting off buying lab goggles, but the deadline was looming quickly. Friday at 4 pm, just before the shop closed, I needed to be on campus to purchase them. I hopped on my bike at the last minute and peddled my little booty towards Heldenfels (I lived in an apartment right across the street from campus). I got about half way there, and the clouds moved in. I have time... or so I thought. Out came a torrential downpour, just in time to soak me to the bone. That day, I learned two things: #1 - Don't procrastinate. #2 - Always carry an umbrella in your purse/backpack. College Station will always hold a special place in my heart. I learned here, I laughed here, I loved here. But like me, College Station is changing. It's really in a constant state of change, if I'm honest, but aren't we all? New buildings are popping up everywhere, and each year, we set a new "record number" for incoming freshman.Every thing may change, but one thing will always stay the same. I will always love my home. Our time here won't be long, which is bittersweet. College Station feels like home to me. It's where I actually became an adult. It's where I got my first big girl job. It's where I met my husband. It's where I got married. This is my home, and in all honesty, I think it always will be.
