Having a baby will rock your world in so many different ways. From around the clock feedings, to sleepless nights, to those 2,500+ diapers used in that first year, babies need a ton of care. Luckily, the moms that came before us were pretty smart and passed down age old wisdom. One of my favorite mom hacks came from my sister. She said, "there will be many times you're not in the nursery to use the changing table, so make yourself a mobile diaper changing station full of all the necessities and keep that with you wherever you are in the house."We're expecting our son any day now and I'm not even a little ashamed that his nursery and mobile diaper changing caddy have been ready for the past month. I know that as soon as we're home, I'm going to hole up with him on the couch or in my bed and I'm not going to want to trek up and down the stairs and all over the house just to get him to his changing table every time nature calls. I'll simply use my mobile changing station and toss the diaper to my husband for proper disposal in the Diaper Genie®. 

Put together your own mobile diapering station: 

First, you'll need a carrying apparatus. The key is to make it large enough to keep all the necessities, but small and light enough that you can actually tote it all over the house. I chose a basic felt caddy. It's lightweight, but large and sturdy enough to hold everything we might need. You might choose a lightweight plastic caddy. Just be sure it has handles that are easy to grab so you can take it with you around the house. Next, you'll add in everything else. Obviously, you'll need diapers and wipes. Make sure you have plenty of both. There's no need to be stingy with your mobile diaper station. The whole point of the mobile diaper caddy is to have everything you need at the reach of a hand. It's a postpartum mom's dream... Well, I guess if we're being real, a postpartum mom's dream is a year-long paid maternity leave, an in home chef, and housekeeper.... but I digress. Next, you'll add in any creams or ointments you use. You can opt to use the travel size versions here and keep the full size versions (or refills) wherever your changing table is. I also add in a bottle of hand sanitizer because I'm practical and I know that I probably won't get up every single time to wash my hands at a sink. 

But what about all the diapers? 

Once or twice a day, gather up all of the diapers you've accumulated (because there will be many), and toss them all in the Diaper Genie®. If you have people around who can help, just have them toss the diapers in as you change the baby.In our nursery, we have the Diaper Genie® Complete Assembled Pail that we picked up conveniently at Target (where basically all baby necessities can be found these days).We really like how un-obnoxious it is near the changing table. Because there are colors to choose from, it's easy to find one that works in every nursery. It's tall so you don't have to bend down, but it doesn't take up much room. Still, it conveniently holds a lot of diapers. My husband is especially happy that it locks odors in and I'm happy that it has a foot pedal so I don't have to touch the pail with whatever is on my hands. Ew, germs.  Be sure to stock up on refills! You do NOT want to run out of the 7-layer refill bags that lock in odors. Luckily the Diaper Genie® 2pk Refill will last you a little while.

Extras you might add 

Working with a lot of new moms has taught me a ton of practical tips, so I've added some "extras" to my mobile diaper caddy.

• • A small waterproof changing pad so I can lie my son down on any surface and have it protected,
  • a muslin swaddle blanket because they're basically the cure-all "duck tape" for babies,
  • a couple of plain body suits for times baby leaks through onto his clothes, and
  • a few toy links

You might be scratching your head at that last one, but my sister swears that dangling a small toy from baby's toes helps keep him happy during changes. Hey! It's worth a shot, right? The best thing about the mobile diaper changing station is that you can alter it to fit your baby's unique needs.
