Home Decor Inspiration: Eclectic Sitting Room Design

We close on our first home soon, so the design wheels have been turning. The first thing that we're doing to the home is painting. Every room except the master bath needs it, unfortunately. We're going with a gray, neutral paint. The most obtrusive paint in the entire house is on the half wall between the living room and sitting room. It's lime green! Needless to say, the entire design needs an overhaul and I'm excited to share my home decor inspiration with you.

Sitting Room Design

Boho Eclectic Home Decor Inspiration

The first room you enter when you walk in our soon-to-be home is the sitting room. This will be a place for us to hang out sans TV, read, and chit-chat. My husband and I both really like light, bright spaces. We also really like things that feel "nice": leather, heavy duty wood, plants, etc. I've been scouring the home decor boards on Pinterest and I've found that I really gravitate towards eclectic home decor. Here's my design inspiration for the sitting room - click on each item to take you to the product page! [show_ms_widget id="35953715" image_id="41804000" width="775" height="775"]

Leather Sitting Chair

Originally, I wanted to nex all leather furniture from our home. I'm not a fan of the big over-stuffed leather chairs and couches. It seems too baby boomer to me (Sorry Mom and Dad). I can appreciate the luxury of leather, though, which is why we're opting for these Irving Pottery Barn Chairs in Chestnut - a light caramel-brown leather.John and I both fell in love with this chair when we were window shopping a few weeks ago. We couldn't get it out of our head. We looked and looked for a cheaper, yet still quality, alternative and we just didn't find it. 2 of these chairs are sitting in our online shopping cart and we'll make the purchase after we close on our house. Who knew chairs could be so exciting?

Pouf Ottomans

When you're 5'1" you don't fit in any furniture. In order for my feet to touch the ground, I have to sit far up in the chair. If I want to relax, and rest my back, my feet dangle. Dangling feet are kind of uncomfortable and so is not being able to lean back in a chair. The best remedy to this is to buy something to set my feet on.Pouf Ottomans are all the rage! They're portable and they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and designs. I don't see any reason why the ottomans have to match. I love the eclectic look of mixing them up.

Indoor Plants

Nothing makes me happier than living with pretty green plants in the house. My mom always kept beautiful house plants, so I guess it's just in my blood. We didn't have the room for plants in our old apartment, so I kept them outside on the patio. It was better than nothing, but I'm excited to finally have some gorgeous plants indoors. Number 1 on my wish list is a fiddle leaf fig tree! Swoon.

Rough Wood Accents

I don't really care for "traditional" wood furniture. I know it's nice, but I prefer more of a raw, rugged wood to polished wood. Call me crazy, that's ok. I have been goo-goo for these rough stump tables. I *think* my dad can make one for me, but if not I'll just buy this beauty.

Shaggy Rug

I'm not a fan of carpet, and that's what we'll have in this house. We're planning to change that in the future, but for the time being, I'll just have to cover it with a pretty rug. I'm a fan of the ivory, soft, shaggy rugs so that's what I'll likely put in the room.

I've never really had an *eye* for design, but I'm slowly learning and I've decided I really love eclectic home decor. Do you need help with home design ideas, too?
