Peanut Butter Flax Seed Green Smoothie
A while ago I was chatting with my sister about my diet and how I knew I needed to eat more vegetables and she suggested green smoothies. I told her that I'd made smoothies before, but I could never get the texture (and amount!) quite right. And you know how they say big sisters always know best? Well, they do. She gave me her basic peanut butter flax seed smoothie recipe and I've made it every morning since. It fits perfectly into a tall glass, it's packed full of amazing nutrients, and it keeps me full until lunch. I am not someone who wants to jump through a lot of hoops in the morning (ok, ever.) so this is the perfect smoothie recipe for me. I have plans to try other ingredients soon, but for now this is my absolute go-to... Plus, who doesn't like peanut butter? I also love that no one flavor totally overpowers the other. Peanut butter and banana live in harmony in this breakfast smoothie.[yumprint-recipe id='24']Need a good blender? I think we burned at least 2 before we finally found "the one". We have this one and it works BEAUTIFULLY. Flax seeds are something that's pretty new to me and I was inspired to try them by Alexis (a chemist and amazing healthy recipe creator). She includes them in so many recipes! Here's what she has to say about their benefits. My sister made the note that if you use protein powder in your smoothie, you'll probably want to use unsweetened almond milk, so keep that in mind to keep the sugar in check. The peanut butter I use is also low in sugar for this reason.Green smoothies are absolutely a great way to pack in some veggies without actually EATING vegetables as we know them. Even for someone who likes vegetables, it can be hard to get enough in. This takes care of 1 serving before your coffee is even cold. So, +1 for this peanut butter flax seed smoothie. It's a true breakfast hero.
