Top 10 Board Games For Couples
In a world that's obsessed with Netflix, surfing the web and phones permanently attached to hands, finding ways to entertain ourselves sans electronics can be hard. But in reality, there are so many ways to have fun, unplugged! My favorite form of unplugged entertainment is the good, old fashioned board game. I know what you're thinking: Monopoly, Life, Clue, etc. The same old games that you wore out when you were ten. Board games have come a long way from your favorite childhood pastime, though. Now there are board games about every topic imaginable. They are sophisticated and modern. There are so many types of board games, too: worker placement, area control, card drafting, and race to the finish... all of which can be combined to form a very entertaining game. If you've been interested in board games, here's a list of ten board games that you cannot go wrong with playing (2 person play approved!):
Manhattan Project
Manhattan Project makes "war time" kind of fun. With scientists and engineers, use plutonium and uranium to build bombs to use against your opponent. Even work on your espionage tactics to gain inside knowledge of your opponent! This is a must play.
Caverna
Caverna is a take on cave living. Use your "family" to improve your cave, farm, and mine for rubies... all while increasing your family. This is a game everyone would enjoy.
Takenoko
Takenoko is a fun, Chinese inspired game. A giant panda is loose in a rice paddy and he's eating all of the bamboo! Use the farmer and the panda to achieve your goals. This is a light hearted game that I could play every day.
Splendor
Splendor is a gem that we found recently. It's a fast game (under 30 minutes for 2 players) but it really is a blast! Collect gems, build mines, and try to rack up 15 points before your opponent. I think every couple should have this game in their arsenal for a quick game night.
Trajan
Based on an old Roman emperor, Trajan is a game where you perform tasks with workers to gain points. This game is great with more players, but it works well with 2.
Dominion
Dominion is a deck building game. Every round you buy cards that help you attain point cards. In the end, the one who has acquired more point cards, wins! It's a fast and fun game. Add on expansion packs for more variety.
Castles of Burgundy
You're building a kingdom with Castles of Burgundy. Add farm animals, castles, ship channels and more to rack up the points faster than your opponent. This is a perfect game to play one on one.
Vitaculture
Vitaculture brings out my inner wine lover. With this game, you're in the vineyard and wine-making business. Make wines with different types of grapes and sell to customers! Vitaculture is a fun game with plenty of obstacles.
Russian Railroads
With Russian Railroads you're trying to build the largest and most advanced railway system... or at least larger and more advanced than your opponent. There are many ways to win, which levels the playing field.
Seasons
Seasons is an easy, but amped up, dice and card game. Use your cards to gain crystals. At the end of the game, he/she who has the most crystals, wins.
