3 Important Lessons From My First Capsule Wardrobe

I've officially made it a month with my first capsule wardrobe. I can honestly say that this has not been a hard journey. The hard part was starting it. I am absolutely loving the ease of outfit planning, and beauty of feeling great in anything I choose.I've learned a lot, too. What I've learned my first go 'round with this capsule idea, will surely make my Spring capsule a lot easier for me to plan.how to capsule wardrobeFirst thing's first. Basics matter. The first week, I noticed that I had zero full length, straight-leg jeans. None. I had ankle pants and I had boot-leg jeans. Not conducive to winter/totally 2008, Jaelan... I bought 2 pairs of great straight, full-length jeans and I'm saving most of my ankle pants for Spring.Which brings me to my next point SOCKS! These matter, too. I think socks are probably the most overlooked piece of any outfit. I have really come to value quality socks. My feet are super blister-prone, and I've been on my feet more and more at work, lately. Kushyfoot sent me a few socks to try. They claim that these socks, "massage your foot with every step". I was skeptical of these claims, but after trying them, I can definitely see how they can make them. While I do think a good pedicure would probably yield a better "massage", the socks are comfy! I definitely feel something with every step, and it's not discomfort. They sent me a pair of their microfiber crew socks, 2 pairs of opaque knee high socks, and "Flats to Go"--fold up shoes you can throw in your bag for when you know you're going to need to swap your killer heels for some comfy flats before the end of the night. I haven't had this need, yet, but I can tell you they fit perfectly in my purse and they're great for slipping on when I need to jet outside for a second. Not to mention... they retail for like $10. TEN DOLLARS. It's like a ten dollar "no blister" insurance you can put in your purse. A great little tootsie emergency fund.My favorite socks were definitely the crew socks. I love that I can wear them with any shoe and not have to worry about blisters, or sore feet. As someone who can spend 8 hours on her feet at work, that is so appreciated. The ridges on the bottom of the socks do a great job of keeping my feet comfortable all day.kushyfoot reviewAnd lastly, I've definitely learned that a color scheme is a must. I don't have a set color scheme for my winter outfit, but I lucked out. I can mix and match most of my items. However, the items I can't mix and match, I find myself not wearing. I love my polka dot pants, but I think I've worn them once because I can't wear them with a lot of my patterned shirts. It just looks funny. I'll be more conscious of color/pattern mixing this in the Spring.Have you ever done a capsule wardrobe? What did you learn from it? Any pointers for me? Llinking up with A Cute Angle.
